Comprehensive Drilling Solutions

Precision drilling for mineral exploration and assessment.

RC Grade Control Drilling

RC Grade Control Drilling (in-pit grade control) is used in open cut mines to define ore grades and provide knowledge for mine planning and blasting.

RC/GC is typical drilled to optimal depths of 48 meters using hole Ø 125-140mm.

This information is critical to reduce waste rock (dilution) in concentrator feed as dilution can vary greatly. RC grade control is the most cost effective and accurate way to define boundaries between waste rock and ore bodies.

Core Drilling

Core drilling is a system that drills and collects a core (cylindrical) sample in the state it is found, i.e. in-situ. The system known as ‘wireline coring’ is used, ie a diamond impregnated (hollow) core bit is used which cuts until the core barrel is full. Drilling Mud / Cutting oil cools/lubricates bit and acts as medium for lifting cuttings to surface.

Geodrill provides Core Drilling in the following sizes:

  • HQ     Ø 63.5 mm
  • NQ    Ø 47.6 mm

Auger Drilling

Our auger drilling services are designed for rapid soil sampling and environmental assessments. This method is efficient for shallow drilling and provides valuable data for preliminary evaluations.

Reverse Circulation (RC)

Reverse Circulation (RC) – RC drilling is the most popular method undertaken by our customers and is typically drilled to depths of up to 400 metres.

RC drilling produces a hole size Ø 140mm and is generally faster than diamond core drilling and generally produces better samples than rotary air blast (RAB) drilling. Reverse Circulation (RC) is more expensive than RAB and Air-core drilling but less expensive than Core (DD) drilling.

Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling produces rock chips rather than a Core sample. The RC method produces sample from depth by pulverizing rock with compressed air and a percussive hammer and returns it to surface through an inner tube and collects it through a cyclone then into a sample bag. Reverse Circulation (RC) is often used in conjunction with a multi-purpose rig to drill RC pre-collars with Core tails. This method is used extensively for exploration and resource drilling.

RC Grade Control Drilling

RC Grade Control (in-pit grade control) is commonly used in open-cut mining operations to determine ore grades and provide essential data for mine planning and blasting.

Drilling is typically carried out to depths of up to 48 metres, with hole diameters ranging from Ø 125–140 mm. This method delivers critical information to minimize waste rock (dilution) in concentrator feed, as dilution levels can vary significantly.

RC grade control is recognized as the most cost-effective and accurate technique for defining the boundaries between ore bodies and waste rock.

Core Drilling

Core drilling is a method used to drill and extract a cylindrical sample (core) in its natural, undisturbed condition (in-situ). The most common system, known as wireline coring, uses a hollow diamond-impregnated core bit that cuts into the material until the core barrel is filled. Drilling mud or cutting oil is circulated during the process to cool and lubricate the bit while also carrying cuttings to the surface.

Laser Resources Ltd. offers core drilling services in the following sizes:

  • HQ     Ø 63.5 mm
  • NQ    Ø 47.6 mm

Auger Drilling

Our auger drilling services are designed for rapid soil sampling and environmental assessments. This method is efficient for shallow drilling and provides valuable data for preliminary evaluations.

Reverse Circulation (RC)

Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling is the most widely used method among our clients and is typically drilled to depths of up to 400 metres. This technique produces a hole with a diameter of Ø 140 mm and is generally faster than diamond core drilling, while delivering more reliable samples than rotary air blast (RAB) drilling.

Although RC drilling is more costly than RAB and air-core methods, it is less expensive than diamond core (DD) drilling. Unlike core drilling, which retrieves intact cylindrical samples, RC drilling produces rock chips. The process involves breaking rock with a percussive hammer and compressed air, then transporting the pulverized material through an inner tube to the surface, where it is collected via a cyclone into sample bags.

.

RC drilling is often performed using a multi-purpose rig, allowing operators to drill RC pre-collars with diamond core tails. This method is extensively used in mineral exploration and resource definition.
